also handled the design duties for public spaces and private room
at the Park Central Holiday Inn in Port Arthur; the hotel earned the InterContinental
Hotels Group's 2003 Quality Excellence Award, given only to hotels achieving
distinction in all aspects of their operations.
It was the only Inn in Texas to receive the award, and we like to think our
designs were a contributing factor.
Since the hotel is primarily a "business" destination, for
the dining area, we decided on a slightly tropical treatment, keeping it light,
colorful and airy yet without diminishing the hotel's dignified atmosphere...
...and
maintained that same atmosphere of unobtrusive comfort into the rest of the
hotel's public areas as well, such as the informal area at left....
...but
to create some "arrival excitement" we paid a more extravagant tribute
to Port Arthur's rough and tumble oil-patch and seaport origins with this Eyecon
designed mural in the hotel lobby.
